With no drinks package you will spend...

The Explorer Package (house brands) costs £39 per day on cruises of 5 to 29 nights when booked in advance.

The Expedition Package (premium drinks) costs £45 per day on cruises of 5 to 29 nights when booked in advance.

If you book onboard, you will pay around 25% more.

For shorter cruises, the package is more expensive and for longer ones, it's cheaper than what's quoted here.

With no drinks package you will spend...

Carnival's Cheers Package costs $70.74 per day if you buy it in advance. Don't wait until you're on the ship as it will cost you $76.64 per day.

Those prices apply for cruises of 6 days or more, but if you're on a shorter cruise, expect to pay $82.54 per day if booked before you sail, or $88.44 if you book onboard.

For those who drink only soda and juices, the Bottomless Bubbles package costs $11.21 per day for adults and $8.20 per day for kids.

Fred Olsen's drinks package costs £25 per day on cruises of 6 nights or more or £35 per day on cruises of 5 nights or less.

If you book on board, it will cost an extra £10 per day.

You should note that the drinks package doesn't include cocktails, wine (except for house wine) or bottled water. It also doesn't include tea and coffee from the Bookmark Cafe.

Holland America's Signature Beverage Package costs $54.95 per day. There's also an Elite package which costs $59.99 per day.

The Premier Beverage Package costs $84.99 per day, plus gratuities for a total cost of $100.30 per day.

The Princess Plus fare offers the best value for money as it costs just $60 per day, yet it includes the Premium Drinks Package, unlimited wifi, pre-paid gratuities, premium desserts, fitness classes and a juice bar.

The Princess Premier fare costs $80 per day and includes the Premier Drinks Package, everything from the Plus Package and even more extras.
